After many years with Fidel Castro as the president in Cuba, his younger brother Raul Castro has now taken over.
It was when Fidel Castro got sick that Raul temporarily took over in 2006. Fidel Castro had been the president from 1976. Raul was then elected to be president on the 24 february 2008 after Fidel Castro had announced that he wouldn’t stand for president again on 19 february 2008.
On his time as president Raul Castro has done much for the country. Especially economic things, like allowing people to buy things that were forbidden under Fidel Castro.

Climate

Cuba has a tropical climate, but is still effected by the winds that blow over the island. The mid-day temperature is never below 22 degrees celsius.
The dry period is from november to april.
The climate at Cuba is very good for agriculture.
Cuba is very derferved for the carribiean orcans.

Sites in Cuba

Playas del Este

East of the capital city, Havana, you can find one of the most famous beaches in the whole world. Playas del Este is a sandy beach which is over six kilometers long. Especially in the weekends, the beach is very full and is packed by lots of Cubans and tourists. The sand is very white and the water is usually warm, making it very popular for tourists.


Morro Castle

Morro Castle is a very big fortress also located in Havana. It was built by an Italian in 1589. Today it is one of the biggest attractions in Cuba. It was built to protect the harbor in Havana for attacks, and there were several attacks where it managed to defend itself, until it fell in 1762 when the British attacked from behind. It was later re-built and it still stands today.

Places and cities in Cuba

Cuba is divided in fifteen different provinces, where Havana is the biggest.

Havana

Havana is the capital city of Cuba. It lives over 2.4 million people there. It is the biggest city of the whole Caribbean. It has a very tropical climate and hurricanes occasionally comes to Cuba. They usually don’t damage Havana as much as many other cities in Cuba.
It has a very famous river running thru the city and dividing the country in two from south to north. The river is called The Almendares River.

Famous Cuban people

Fidel Castro.
Fidel Castro was the leader of the Cuban revolution, he was aswell the prime minister of Cuba 1959 - 1976, and the president of Cuba 1976-2008. He couldn't be president anymore because of his medical condition.
Fidel Castro is mostly famous for helping the USSR under the cold war, by placing soviet missiles in his country in case Kruschev wanted to destroy USA. Fidel castro was also a communist and was friends with Che. He is the most famous person from Cuba.
